SIEMBIOT – A european project addressing a national and regional need

SIEMBIOT is a European cybersecurity research and innovation project, implemented by the Romanian National Cyber Security Directorate (DNSC) as beneficiary, in partnership with EXPERTWARE, the project coordinator. It was developed to turn technical expertise and operational experience into concrete capabilities for preventing, detecting, analysing and responding to cyber threats.

The project addresses an increasingly relevant challenge for both public and private organisations: the need to bring together, within an integrated framework, information and tools that have traditionally operated separately – from security event monitoring and vulnerability identification to threat intelligence and cybersecurity maturity assessment.

The result is a modular platform built around real-world security needs, applicable to both public and private organisations, with the potential to contribute to strengthening cybersecurity capabilities at national and European level.

A European investment in cybersecurity capabilities

SIEMBIOT is developed under the Digital Europe Programme, the European Union programme supporting the development and deployment of Europe's strategic digital capabilities, including in the field of cybersecurity.

The project has a total budget of €3,358,195.00, of which €2,384,093.75 represents the European Union's contribution. The investment supports research and development activities, the integration of technological components, solution testing and validation, as well as the development of tools and resources associated with the platform.

Beyond technological development, the project aims to turn European investment into capabilities that can be tested, used and further developed, contributing to the broader objective of strengthening cyber resilience and European technological autonomy.

Closing Conference – From Results to the Next Steps

The event, taking place on 27 August at the Diplomatic Club in Bucharest, marks the completion of the project's implementation period and brings into focus the results achieved, the experience gained, and the opportunities for further development and use of the SIEMBIOT platform.

The conference will feature the SIEMBIOT platform and its developed components, live demonstrations of the solution, project results, and cybersecurity maturity assessment tools. The programme will also include discussions on the implementation experience, current cybersecurity challenges, and future directions for development and cooperation.

The event brings together representatives from public institutions, the private sector, the cybersecurity community, and the research and innovation ecosystem, providing a forum for discussion on how the outcomes of research and European investment can be transformed into relevant cybersecurity capabilities.

Why SIEMBIOT?

The cyber threat landscape is evolving rapidly, while IT infrastructures are becoming increasingly complex and both security requirements and organisational responsibilities continue to grow.

In this context, compliance is necessary, but it is not enough.

Cyber resilience requires visibility into risks, detection and response capabilities, effective vulnerability management, access to Cyber Threat Intelligence, and continuous cybersecurity maturity assessment.

In the context of NIS2 and increasing requirements for cyber risk management, SIEMBIOT supports this transition by connecting the data, tools and processes required to improve risk awareness and strengthen prevention, detection and response capabilities.

The completion of the SIEMBIOT project does not simply mark the end of an implementation period. It opens a new stage focused on leveraging the project's results, further developing the platform, and building new partnerships across the national and European cybersecurity ecosystem.

The Romanian National Cyber Security Directorate (DNSC) is Romania's national public authority responsible for the civilian national cyberspace, as a component of national security.
